These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Barktein app (“Barktein,” “the app,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by John Santia under SanMan. By downloading, accessing, or using Barktein, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Your license to use Barktein on iOS is governed by Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”), available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. These Terms supplement the Standard EULA. If there is any conflict between these Terms and the Standard EULA regarding the license to use the app, the Standard EULA controls.
Barktein is a protein intake tracking app featuring Rex, a companion character. Core features include logging protein, viewing daily progress, streaks and milestones, optional local reminders (“barks”), and personalization of a daily protein target. We may add, change, or remove features over time.
Barktein is designed as a local-first experience: your logs and settings are stored on your device. We do not require an account for the free local-first version.
Barktein is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. You agree to use the app only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes and in accordance with these Terms and applicable law.
Informational only. Protein targets, onboarding recommendations, and related content are general guidelines for informational and entertainment purposes. They are not medical advice, dietary advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and they are not a substitute for professional care.
Always consult a qualified healthcare or nutrition professional before changing your diet or if you have a medical condition. Do not disregard professional advice because of something you saw in Barktein. If you think you may have a medical emergency, seek emergency help immediately.
You are responsible for the accuracy of information you enter (such as food amounts and bodyweight). Data you enter is stored on your device unless a future feature you enable says otherwise. You are responsible for maintaining appropriate device security and backups.
You agree not to misuse Barktein, including by attempting to reverse engineer, disrupt, or interfere with the app; using it to violate law; or misrepresenting the app as a medical or clinical tool.
Barktein may offer optional paid features under the name Barktein PRO. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We may use a subscription helper (e.g. RevenueCat) only to verify entitlement status so PRO features unlock correctly. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Barktein, Rex, SanMan, and related branding, design, and software are owned by us or our licensors. These Terms do not grant you ownership of the app or brand assets. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the app except as allowed by the Standard EULA and applicable law.
The app may rely on platform services (Apple notifications, App Store distribution). Those services are governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
Barktein is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that protein estimates or guidelines will meet your needs.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we and our affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or health outcomes, arising from your use of Barktein. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the app will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim or (b) USD $10, if you use only free features.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the app or violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date and may provide notice in the app or on this page. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your jurisdiction apply. Courts in Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to those mandatory protections and the Standard EULA where it applies.
